President Donald Trump apparently has new plans to make every White House staffer take a lie detector test anytime a new leak occurs.
The new policy was first reported by Politico, who spoke to four former White House employees about the issue.
One of the staffers told Politico:
“He (Trump) wanted to polygraph every employee in the building to unearth who it was who spoke to the press.”
The group of officials allegedly all claimed that the President would “constantly” talk about ordering Polygraph tests whenever a major leak would occur.
One of the White House officials also said that new staffers will often agree with Trump about polygraphs at first to get on his good side. Then when an issue comes up, they all push back against it.
“It was something that was discussed and people were trying to placate the president and trying to show that they were taking it as personally and just as seriously as he was.”
Stefan Passantino, who was formerly Trump’s deputy White House counsel for compliance and ethics, looked into potential polygraph tests early in the Trump administration but concluded it was not worth pursuing.
When asked about the potential polygraph tests, Stephanie Grisham, the White House press secretary, told Politico:
“I think the president and anyone in his administration have the right to be frustrated and even angry about leaks. Leaking information, which is often times classified, only hurts this country. I have been with the president since July 2015 and can say unequivocally that I have never heard suggesting polygraphs as a way to stop leaks.”
With all the leaks out of the White House in the last 3 years, some real and many fake, could anyone blame the President for wanting to sure up his staff? Whether Trump does it or not is up to him.
